Unending poverty

Everyone is aware of the mounting poverty in India. No matter how many schemes our government launches, we'll find women carrying naked babies for money. Makes me wonder why do we call it Rising and shining India. We live in a country of haves and haves not. Some are filthy rich while others are dying of hunger. What should be done? Some will say government is trying their best, others will say the saga will continue.  But if we look at it the other way, is only the government to be blamed? I'm sure they must have done a lot of things for these poor people. Still new surveys come up, claiming that India can't end poverty by 2015. See the link below

In today's newspaper I read about a mother who had to sell her child for mere Rs. 400. I remember how last weekend I gifted a Rs. 2000 worth perfume to a pal. Now I'm wondering how strange it is. She kept this baby for 9 months in her womb and in utter poverty she had to sell it. See the link below.

Again the same question..who's responsible? We being citizens of this country too have some share of responsibilities. How many times have we taught our maids and servants to read and write? "What's the need?" that's what we feel. But if we see with our minds open, there is an urgent need.
